
Biography
Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja was appointed as Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament designate, by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni on 8th June 2021 becoming the 11th person and first female, to occupy the office since Uganda became independent in 1962.
Before this appointment, Hon. Nabbanja was the Minister of State for Health in charge of General Duties, a position she was appointed to on 14th December 2019.
Nabbanja was born and raised in Kamusenene village, Nkooko Sub County in present-day Kakumiro District, Bunyoro, Western Uganda on 17 December 1969.
She attended Nkooko Primary School before joining St. Edward’s Secondary School Bukuumi, for both her O-Level and A-Level studies.
Between 1990 and 2000, Nabbanja obtained Certificates and Diplomas in Leadership, Management and Development Studies, from various institutions, including Uganda Martyrs University, Uganda Management Institute, the Islamic University in Uganda and the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi.
She later obtained a Bachelor of Democracy and Development Studies Degree from Uganda Martyrs University in 2013 and later in 2023, she graduated with a Masters of Arts in Monitoring and Evaluation from Nkumba University, Kampala Campus.
From 1993 until 1996, Hon. Nabbanja was a School Teacher at Uganda Martyrs’ Secondary School Kakumiro. She then served as a District Councilor, representing Nkooko Sub-County, in what was Kibaale District at the time, from 1998 until 2001. During that period, she concurrently served as the Secretary for Health, Gender and Community Services for the district.
For 10 years (2001–2010) she served as a Resident District Commissioner in the districts of Pallisa, Busia and Budaka, before joining elective politics in 2011, when she successfully contested for Kibaale District Woman Representative in the 9th Parliament (2011–2016).
When Kakumiro District was created in 2016, she successfully contested for the Woman Representative seat for the new district. She is currently the Woman MP for Kakumiro District, having won re- election for the same seat in the January 2021 elections.
During her time in Parliament, she served as Treasurer of the NRM Caucus (2011-2016), and as a Parliamentary Commissioner (2016-2019).
Rt. Hon. Nabbanja is passionate about Community Mobilisation and effective Service Delivery.

The Premier praised UNFPA’s contributions to maternal health, gender-based violence prevention, and Uganda’s digital census.
She emphasized the need for continued partnership to transition 38% of Ugandans into the money economy and empower youth.
Minister Onek urged neighboring countries to share the refugee burden and called for more support to align with Uganda’s development goals.

Prime Minister calls for unity and collective action to drive Africa’s Sustainable Development
Uganda hosted the 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, reaffirming its commitment to the 2030 Agenda and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized inclusive growth, climate justice, and regional collaboration, urging unified action for sustainable progress.
The forum’s theme focused on innovation, job creation, and science-based solutions, with strong emphasis on youth, women, and intergenerational equity.
The event marked a significant step in Africa’s collective effort to drive sustainable development through unity, visionary leadership, and shared responsibility.

Government commissions 398 Health Center III’s, Makes positive strides in Health Indices
Uganda’s Prime Minister commissioned 398 Health Center IIIs and 3 blood banks to boost healthcare access.
The initiative supports SDGs and aligns with Uganda Vision 2040 and national development plans.
Leaders urged improved facility utilization and called for essential utilities like water and electricity.
The World Bank praised Uganda’s progress, with over 10 million people expected to benefit.

Prime Minister meets UNFPA Regional Director, discuss a wide range of issues for mutual benefit
Prime Minister Nabbanja met with UNFPA’s Regional Director to discuss teenage pregnancy, refugee support, and strengthening Uganda’s Parish Development Model (PDM).
She praised UNFPA’s role in maternal health, gender-based violence prevention, and data system improvements.
Nabbanja emphasized the urgent need to address high teenage pregnancy rates and support unemployed youth.
UNFPA pledged continued collaboration, especially in refugee support and empowering vulnerable populations.

Prime Minister challenges the people of Busoga to embrace government programmes for Wealth Creation
Prime Minister Nabbanja urged the people of Busoga to embrace government wealth creation programs like PDM, Emyooga, and the GROW project.
She emphasized women’s economic empowerment and called for action against corruption involving vendors’ lost funds.
Nabbanja highlighted the importance of supporting President Museveni for continued peace and security.
Malaria was identified as a major barrier to development in Busoga, prompting new eradication efforts.

Japan commits USD 6.6 Million to Refugees and Refugee Host Communities in Uganda
Japan has committed USD 6.6 million to support Uganda’s refugee efforts, health, nutrition, waste management, and disaster risk reduction.
The funding, announced by Ambassador Sasayama Takuya, reflects Japan’s ongoing partnership with Uganda.
Prime Minister Nabbanja thanked Japan for its continued support toward national development goals like Vision 2040.
The United Nations also welcomed the contribution, noting its crucial role in promoting peace, resilience, and inclusive development.
